American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification

15 years+. Teaches the duties and responsibilities of lifeguards to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. Certifies participants as an American Red Cross Lifeguard, including CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and AED.

Prerequisites

• Swim 200 yards into treading water for two minutes.
• Must use rhythmic breathing with your face in the water and a stabilizing, propellant kick.
• Within 1 minute and 40 seconds:
  • Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke
  • Surface dive to a minimum depth of seven feet
  • Retrieve a 10 lbs. object
  • Return to surface
  • Swim back to the starting point while holding the 10 lbs. object with both hands with your face above water

Notes

• Must attend all classes in a session
• Cancellations made at least seven (7) days before the start of class will receive a refund minus a $50 fee
• No refunds for cancellations made less than seven (7) days prior to the start of class
• Participants who do not pass the prerequisite will receive a refund minus a $50 fee
• This is a blended learning class with online learning and in-water skills
• Friday classes during the school year are 4-8 p.m.
• Should any class run longer than initially anticipated and require additional day(s), final testing will be completed the following week.
