Adult Day Center Frequently Asked Questions

adult-day-center

What is an Adult Day Center?

An Adult Day Center provides a supported environment to keep your family member at home and may serve as an alternative to full-time residential care. We provide structured activities geared to stimulate both the minds and the bodies of our participants. The goal of the Adult Day Center at the J is to help keep adults “aging in place,” at home, as long as possible by offering supervision, stimulation, nursing oversight, social work support and daily care for our participants while providing respite care for their caregivers.

Who attends the Adult Day Center at the J?

The Adult Day Center at the J is designed to serve adults who are physically, cognitively or intellectually impaired and may require supervision, increased social opportunities, assistance with personal care or other daily living activities.

What health and wellness services are available?

While each program participant must continue to be seen by his or her personal physician, unlike many other adult day programs, we have a full-time registered nurse on site to provide preventive healthcare interventions as directed by a physician.

What type of therapeutic recreational activities are offered?

Our safe, pleasant environment promotes a feeling of belonging and encourages a wide range of activities involving cognitive stimulating mental games, reminiscence activities, and social interaction activities. The physical integrity of our participants is enhanced by modified group exercises and adapted sports, as well as access to seasonal outdoor walks in an adjacent sensory garden. Creative programs allow opportunities to participate in musical activities and entertainments, therapeutic art projects, adapted activities, as well as opportunities for therapeutic gardening activities. Intergenerational programming, as well as pet therapy visits, provides a wonderful accent to the program. Each individual’s needs are identified in a personal therapeutic recreation assessment to ensure their personal needs and interests are met on a daily basis.

Are meals included? What if I have special diet considerations?

Yes – Our participants join us for a kosher, delicious and healthy breakfast and lunch, as well as healthy snacks for late-day participants. All of our meals are prepared fresh on-site and served straight from the kosher kitchen, and meet USDA Healthy Eating Guidelines for

Older Adults over 60. The on-site RN adapts meals for special health needs.
