Fitness Equipment Orientations

Learn about Fitness Floor Equipment: Sign Up for an Orientation!

The Fitness Equipment Orientation, for adults 18+, is held regularly at both J locations.

Youth Fitness Orientations for kids ages 12-17 years are also available at both locations, although they are held by appointment only. Kids ages 12-15 years are required to take a Youth Fitness Orientation before they may use the fitness floor equipment. (See additional details below.)

All fitness orientations are free with your J membership!


Adult & Youth Fitness Equipment Orientations

Fitness Equipment Orientations for Adults Ages 18+

18 years + In this certified Personal Trainer guided tour and overview of our fitness facilities, you’ll learn workout-related terminology, proper safety techniques, how to use various cardiovascular and resistance training equipment, and have opportunities to ask fitness-related questions.

Overall, this equipment orientation aims to empower members with the knowledge of how to make the most of our fitness facilities with confidence.

Youth Fitness Orientations for Kids Ages 12-17

Youth Fitness Orientations for kids ages 12-17 years are available at both locations by appointment only. A youth fitness orientation is mandatory for children 12-15 years old who would like to use a J fitness center.

This 30-minute course will teach youth how to safely and effectively use the cardiovascular and strength equipment in our fitness centers:

  • how to do basic exercise
  • guidelines for using free weights, weight machines and cardio equipment
  • risks and benefits of resistance training
  • how to develop a safe and effective resistance training program

After completing the course successfully, participants will be allowed independent use of the fitness centers.

Youth participants must complete a registration form and medical clearance before making an appointment. Registration includes a physician’s release, Par-Q, and liability form.
