About Our School
The J’s Early Childhood Centers are more than just a place for care and education. We are part of a vibrant, multigenerational community. As a core program of the J, our children and families enjoy access to a wide range of experiences, services, and spaces that enrich daily learning and support the whole family.
A Reggio Experience in a Licensed and Accredited Center
The J’s Early Childhood Centers are inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach®. This educational philosophy views children as capable, curious, and full of potential. It emphasizes learning through relationships, exploration, and expression in many forms, often called “the hundred languages” of children. Our practices are grounded in this vision of the child as a powerful participant in their own learning, growing through connection with others and with their environment.

Additionally, we are licensed by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and accredited by Missouri Accreditation. At a licensed and accredited early childhood center like the J, children not only receive the highest quality care and education but also benefit from an environment that emphasizes safety, quality assurance, and community involvement.
Here’s how licensing and accreditation elevate the Reggio Emilia-inspired experience:
Being a licensed center means that the J’s Early Childhood Centers is required to meet and maintain specific health, safety, and regulatory standards. This oversight ensures that the environment is safe, clean, and conducive to learning, giving families confidence that their child is in a well-regulated and secure setting. Licensed centers undergo regular inspections and are held to state and national regulations, adding an extra layer of accountability. This commitment to safety and compliance is foundational for families seeking peace of mind and assurance that their child’s well-being is a top priority.
Accreditation takes the commitment to excellence one step further. The J’s Early Childhood Centers’ accreditation is a mark of its dedication to offering a high-quality educational experience based on current best practices in early childhood education. Accreditation ensures that the center adheres to a state-approved, developmentally appropriate curriculum and continuously evaluates its teaching methods. This ongoing process of self-assessment and improvement highlights the center’s dedication to fostering an environment of growth, creativity, and learning.
Accreditation requires the center to employ well-trained, qualified staff who are equipped to provide the best educational experience. This is especially important in a Reggio-inspired setting, where teachers are viewed as collaborators and co-learners alongside the children. The qualified staff at the J’s Early Childhood Centers ensure that each child’s unique needs, interests, and developmental pace are respected and nurtured.
A licensed and accredited center not only focuses on academic readiness but also emphasizes the emotional, social, and physical development of each child. The Reggio Emilia approach aligns perfectly with this holistic focus, as it encourages exploration, self-expression, and community-building. Teachers at accredited centers are trained to observe, listen to, and document children’s learning processes, using these insights to guide the educational experience and create meaningful, engaging projects.
Additionally, accreditation standards often include requirements for family involvement, helping create a strong partnership between families and educators. This collaborative approach supports the idea that learning is a shared journey, and families are key partners in their child’s educational experiences. The J ECC fosters this sense of community, ensuring that children feel connected not only to their peers and teachers but also to the larger learning environment around them.
The J’s Early Childhood Centers provide children with a rich, Reggio-inspired learning experience within a structured, supportive, and safe environment. Families can rest assured that their children are receiving the highest standards of care, education, and emotional support, laying the foundation for a lifelong love of learning.
Conscious Discipline Curriculum
In addition to the Reggio-inspired learning experience, the J’s Early Childhood Centers use the Conscious Discipline Curriculum, an emotional intelligence and classroom management program consisting of Brain Smart strategies for responding to life events. Conscious discipline is a proven, comprehensive approach that empowers our teachers to provide a safe, connected and problem-solving school family. Through our teacher’s response, conflict moments are transformed into cooperative learning opportunities. Conscious Discipline is a research-based program proven to increase academic achievement and improve quality of relationships, including student-to-student, teacher-to-student and family-to-child.

The Benefits of Being a Part of the J
Being part of a larger community center allows us to offer a learning environment that is dynamic, supportive, and deeply connected. Using our core Jewish values and a living curriculum, families grow alongside their children and become part of something greater.
Because we are located within a full-service community center, children benefit from year-round swimming and access to high-quality fitness opportunities. Our spacious campus also includes gardens, playgrounds, and campgrounds, providing daily opportunities for outdoor exploration and movement without leaving the property.
We maintain a meaningful relationship with Adult Day at the J, offering intergenerational programming that builds empathy, connection, and shared joy between children and older adults.
Families at the J have access to a variety of extracurricular and enrichment opportunities through our Sports & Recreation and Family Centers. These include dance, sports leagues, gymnastics, and enrichment classes, all located on site.
At the J’s Early Childhood Centers, Jewish education is not a separate subject. It is woven into the fabric of everyday life. Inspired by both the Reggio Emilia approach and core Jewish values, we create a living curriculum where children experience Judaism through relationships, rituals, stories, celebrations, and acts of kindness.
Our goal is to nurture a strong sense of identity, belonging, and curiosity. We help children see themselves as part of something larger: a community with deep roots, meaningful traditions, and a commitment to tikkun olam, the work of repairing the world.
We introduce Jewish holidays and traditions in ways that are joyful, developmentally appropriate, and inclusive. Whether baking challah, singing Hebrew songs, planting in our garden during Tu B’Shevat, or engaging in acts of tzedakah, children build an authentic connection to Jewish life and values.
Our classrooms reflect the diversity of Jewish families today. We welcome children from all backgrounds and create space for each family’s story. Through inquiry, ritual, and relationship, we foster an environment where Jewish learning feels relevant, personal, and full of wonder.
Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging in Early Childhood
We welcome children from a wide range of backgrounds, including those with developmental differences, those who are at risk, and those from families with limited economic resources. Our commitment to inclusion reflects both our Jewish values and our belief that diversity strengthens our learning environment. We are committed to building a culture of belonging, partnership, and joy for all children and families in our care.
In our Early Childhood Centers, we believe every child and family brings something essential to our community. Guided by the Jewish value of hachnasat orchim, the sacred responsibility to welcome others, we strive to create a place where all families feel at home.
To ensure every child can thrive, we are proud to have a full-time Manager of Child Success on staff. This role provides individualized support, collaborates with families and educators, and helps create pathways for each child to experience success—academically, socially, and emotionally. The Manager of Child Success plays a vital part in promoting equity and access across our classrooms.
