Fitness Challenge Cardio

Above All, Manners, Consideration and Kindness

We want you to feel like the J is your home while you’re here. Please remember that it is a home shared by many others, and we expect everyone to be considerate and respectful at all times. Shouting and swearing, or arguing on the fitness floor will not be tolerated. Everyone here is working toward the same goals, so let’s help each other. Be considerate and encouraging to those working out around you.

Everyone Must Check In

You must scan your key fob (membership card) every time you visit. Nobody likes to wait in line, so help us reduce wait time at check-in by bringing your key fob every time you visit. If you’ve lost yours, you may purchase a replacement card in our membership services department for $3. If you do not present your card at the front desk, you will be expected to show a photo ID for security and safety reasons.

Dress to Sweat

Please wear appropriate attire, always, including shoes. Shirts and athletic shoes are required in the gym and on the fitness floor. Street shoes are not safe. Also, please do not wear wet shoes into a group exercise room, studio or gym. Wet floors are unsafe.

Don’t Make that Call

Please do not use your phone on the fitness floor, in studios or in the locker room. Not only is it unsafe, but the member working out next to you does not want to be part of your conversation. Focus on your workout so you get more out of your time here with less risk of injury. Need to talk? Strike up a conversation with a fellow member and make a new friend.

Share with Your Friends

Please adhere to time limits on the cardio equipment. Gyms are busy places, and our members have busy lives. Please help everyone fit their workout into their schedules by adhering to the time limits on our cardio equipment. For longer stretches of cardio, sign up for Signature Training or take advantage of Group Exercise classes.

Please Put it Back

We provide towel and locker service at no extra charge. But we do ask that you re-rack your own weights and return other equipment to its place. Your fellow members and fitness staff thank you.

Wipe It Off

We want you to work up a sweat while you’re working out, but please take it with you when you go. Please wipe off your cardio equipment when you’re finished so it’s ready for the next person. We promise there’s a towel and cleaner within a few steps of your machine.

Hit the Shower First

Please shower (with soap) before entering whirlpools or swimming pools to help keep them clean and clear. Taking a shower before entering the pool reduces the impurities that make it into the water and helps us keep the pools ready for you and everyone else.

No Aromatherapy

Please do not bring anything scented into the sauna. No eucalyptus, no citrus – many people are sensitive to scents so they are not allowed. Also, help us avoid a mess by not bringing pressurized cans (such as shaving cream) into the sauna.

Let Management Manipulate the Sauna and Steam

Please do not try to change the conditions in the steam room or sauna. Hitting the sensors with water or messing with the thermostat nearly always results in damage, which means the room has to be closed to wait for repair. If you think something is off in the steam room or sauna, please let us know.

Hit the Basket, Not the Floor

Please put your used towels in the laundry bins and not on the floor. Help us keep the J tidy! After your workout or shower, place your used towels in marked bins so that they can be cleaned.
