Taking your exercise into the pool can not only be a refreshing change of pace in your routine, but also a healthy choice. Exercising in the water eases the tension and weight on bones and joints and the buoyancy of the water allows for increased motion without stress.
Water-based exercise does not only reduces stress to joints, but also reduces the participant’s overall stress and anxiety. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, aquatic exercise improves mental health. “Swimming can improve mood in both men and women. For people with Fibromyalgia, it can decrease anxiety and exercise therapy in warm water can decrease depression and improve mood.”
The JCC of St. Louis offers personalized 60-minute aquatic fitness training sessions so participants can look beyond swimming lessons and learn how to loose weight, tone muscle and build endurance in the water.
