IN Program

Program partially funded by The Miracle Makers Foundation

An innovative program offered through Adult Day at the J for individuals 18+ with intellectual/developmental disabilities. IN is a program designed to foster INdependence, INclusion, INgenuity, and to INspire young adults with disabilities to achieve their personal goals and have fun while doing it.

IN aims to maximize the person’s experience by offering a full day of activities geared toward individualized skill building within a structured group setting. Unlike other day programs, IN accesses the J’s state-of-the-art fitness facility daily to engage in a variety of unique services such as personal fitness training, Tai Chi, aquatics, yoga, Zumba, Pickleball, and more. Therapeutic programs include music therapy, horticulture therapy, pet therapy, speech therapy, and more. IN also engages in a wide range of volunteer activities, community outings, and a multitude of daily skill-building activities.

To maximize the social, physical and cognitive benefits of IN, eligible participants must be able to interact and engage appropriately in group settings, with a 1:6 staff to participant ratio. Schedule a tour today!

FAQs about the IN Program

How many days per week is my son/daughter required to come?

Your weekly schedule is up to you and your family and what works best. All we ask is that you select how many days per week and what you would like for the days to be. Ex. If you chose to come 3 days per week you could select Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays as your scheduled days.

Who pays for the program?

We accept a variety of funding options: Medicaid Waiver, DMH Waiver, and Private Pay.

Who is a good fit for the IN program?

We accept individuals who:

  • Have a desire to participate in group activities and engage socially with others.
  • Are able to be engaged and active cognitively and physically throughout the day.
  • Comply with safety expectations, stays with the group, no risk of elopement.
  • Are independent with toileting and personal care.
  • Do not show verbally or physically aggressive or disruptive behaviors.
  • Are able to maintain group level of supports, not requiring more than 1:6 staff-to-participant ratio supports.
Do you offer behavior management services?

Our programs offer a maximum of 1:6 staff-to-participant support ratios. We do not have behavior specialists on staff and cannot provide behavior management services.

My son/daughter is still in school. Is it too early to enroll?

Absolutely not! We have individuals who are still in school but attend the IN program 1-2 days per week to start the transition process into the program.

Are meals included? What if I have special diet considerations?

Yes! Our participants join us for a delicious and healthy breakfast, lunch, and snack. All of our meals are prepared fresh on-site and served straight from the kosher kitchen, and meet USDA Healthy Eating Guidelines. The on-site RN and kitchen staff collaborate to adapt meals for special health needs.

Do you go on outings in the community?

Absolutely! We typically take our groups on outings 1-2 each week, these include special trips to places like the Zoo, Science Center, Parks, Museums, Theaters, Sporting Events, etc., and frequent trips to the library, grocery store, and more as we work on building skills to become more independent.

Is exercise part of the programming offered?

We prioritize the physical health and wellbeing of our participants and place a heavy emphasis on incorporating physical exercise into our daily program plans. Because our programs are housed within the J complex, we are able to access a state-of-the-art fitness facility on a daily basis. The J’s full-service fitness facility is equipped with basketball, racquetball, and pickleball courts, indoor and outdoor pools, indoor walking track, dance, yoga, and cycling studios, as well as a wide range of weight and exercise equipment.

What types of activities do you offer for skill building?

During our enrollment process we work with each participant and their family to identify and establish individualized goals that the participant desires to work on while attending the program. Typically, individual goals will focus on building skills in the areas of communication, finance management, socialization, household management (cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc.) time management, health & wellness, self-determination, confidence, and more.

How can I learn more?
