SUMMARY:Film Festival Special Preview Event & Screening of Sugihara: Conspiracy of Kindness
DESCRIPTION:Preview the 2026 Season Experience with a Film Screening\, Filmmaker Q&A\, & Guest Performance\nExperience an evening of powerful storytelling\, community\, and Jewish and Japanese culture during this year’s St. Louis Jewish Film Festival Preview Event. \nTake in an energetic pre-film performance by St. Louis Osuwa Taiko\, be moved by the heroic acts of a Japanese diplomat during the Holocaust in a screening of the documentary film Sugihara: Conspiracy of Kindness\, and engage with diane estelle Vicari\, award‑winning filmmaker of Sugihara\, during a live Q&A. \n\nFilm: Sugihara: Conspiracy of Kindness\n2000\, NR\nUSA\, English\nRobert Kirk\, diane estelle Vicari\nDocumentary: 90 minutes  \na powerful documentary that reminds us how one person’s courage can change the course of history \nIn the dark early days of World War II\, Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara made a choice that defied his government — and changed the course of thousands of lives.\n\nIn the fall of 1939\, as Hitler’s murderous wave swept across Eastern Europe\, Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara faced an impossible choice. Stationed in Lithuania as Japan’s Consul\, Sugihara was surrounded by desperate Jewish refugees whose only hope of escape lay in a transit visa he was expressly forbidden to issue. Acting against direct orders from Tokyo—and at enormous risk to his career and his family—Sugihara followed his conscience\, handwriting thousands of visas that enabled Jews to flee through Russia to Japan and onward to safety. Today\, it is estimated that more than 40\,000 people owe their lives to Sugihara’s extraordinary moral courage.\n\n\n\nTrailer\nhttps://jccstl.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/SUGIHARA-Conspiracy-of-Kindness-Trailer-SD1.mp4\n\n\n\nSpecial Pre-Show Performance by St. Louis Osuwa Taiko\nSt. Louis Osuwa Taiko delivers the traditional art of Japanese taiko—along with powerful modern pieces—through electrifying\, high‑energy performances that captivate audiences with rhythm\, movement\, and cultural artistry. Performing throughout the Midwest\, they bring a thunderous\, heart‑pounding experience you can feel in your chest\, making them a must‑see for anyone who loves immersive live art or Japanese culture. \n \n\nPost-Screening Q&A with Filmmaker diane estelle Vicari\n\n \nThe screening will be followed by a live Q&A with award-winning filmmaker diane estelle Vicari\, whose documentary brings Sugihara’s story vividly to life. A graduate of UCLA’s Program in Film and Television\, Vicari has built a distinguished career producing films that explore our shared humanity and global interconnectedness. Sugihara: Conspiracy of Kindness earned the prestigious Pare Lorentz/IDA Award\, and in 2021\, the California State Legislature officially designated Sugihara Visas Day\, honoring the diplomat’s legacy of compassion and rescue.\n\n\nVicari’s appearance is generously sponsored by Nancy and Ken Kranzberg and Shelly and Rick Mayhew. We invite you to join us for this meaningful evening of film\, conversation\, and reflection — a fitting prelude to a festival devoted to bearing witness\, choosing courage\, and celebrating the power of human kindness. \n\n\n\nTickets\nTickets for this special preview event are only $5/person!\n\nRESERVE TICKETS \n\n\nPartner Event\n \nJoin us January 17–April 4 at the Holocaust Museum for Special Exhibition “Resilience – A Sansei Sense of Legacy”\nThe Film Festival Special Preview Event: Sugihara coincides with the Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum’s new exhibition\, RESILIENCE: A Sansei Sense of Legacy\, on view January 17 – April 4\, 2026.\n\nIn 1942\, Executive Order 9066 forced the incarceration of Japanese Americans living on the West Coast. Told from the perspective of Sansei – third-generation Japanese Americans – Resilience features the work of eight artists whose families experienced this injustice and whose art reflects on its impact across generations. That impact was also felt here in St. Louis\, where many Japanese American families settled post incarceration.\n\nThis free exhibition is made possible through the Museum’s Partnership with the Japanese American Citizen’s League. \n\n\n31st ANNUAL ST. LOUIS JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL\nSunday\, March 15–Thursday\, March 26\, 2026\nNow in its 31st year\, the St. Louis Jewish Film Festival showcases outstanding films that illuminate Jewish life\, culture\, and identity. Screenings run Sunday\, March 15–Thursday\, March 26\, 2026\, at the B&B multiplex and at partner locations around St. Louis\, offering audiences a high-quality cinematic experience on both the Grand Screen and in smaller auditoriums. The St. Louis Jewish Film Festival is a program of the J – St. Louis.

SUMMARY:Paths Forward for Gaza\, Israel\, & The Middle East
DESCRIPTION:An Evening with Ahmed Fouad Alkhatib\, A Gazan Advocate for Peace\, Realign For Palestine at the Atlantic Council \nDoors Open 6:30pm | Program Begins 7pm \nSecurity will be in place; please leave large bags at home. \nOrganized by JCRC and Friends of Israel and sponsored by the Jewish Book Festival & Speaker Series\, a program of the J. \n\nAbout Ahmed Fouad Alkhatib\nSenior Fellow at Atlantic Council and Director of Realign For Palestine \nAhmed Fouad Alkhatib leads Realign For Palestine\, an Atlantic Council project that challenges entrenched narratives in the Israel and Palestine discourse and develops a new policy framework for rejuvenated pro-Palestine advocacy. Realign For Palestine aims to cultivate a new generation of Palestinian voices committed to a two-nation solution\, nonviolence\, and radical pragmatism. \nAlkhatib serves as a resident senior fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Middle East programs\, where he writes extensively on Gaza’s political and humanitarian affairs\, is an outspoken critic of Hamas\, and promotes a radically pragmatic approach to peace and Palestinian statehood as the only path forward between Palestinians and Israelis. His writing and opinions have been published and featured across the US\, Israeli\, and international press\, and his views are prominently featured across social media platforms. Alkhatib holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in intelligence and national security studies. He grew up in Gaza City and left Gaza in 2005. Much of Ahmed’s experience is influenced by having grown up in Gaza during the Oslo peace process — and during the difficulties resulting from Oslo’s failure — and the rise of Hamas and Islamism in Gaza. \nSince the October 7 massacre\, Alkhatib’s life has been deeply impacted by the loss of thirty-three of his immediate and extended family members\, who were killed by three different Israeli airstrikes. Still\, he aims to play a part in breaking the cycle of dehumanization and defying the cycle of hatred\, incitement\, violence\, and revenge. \n\nRegistration\nRegistration required. \nREGISTER \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:For The Living – A St. Louis Jewish Film Festival Event
DESCRIPTION:2024\, NR\nUSA\, English\nMarc Bennet\, Brett Kopin\, Tim Roper\, Lisa Efress\nDocumentary: 112 minutes \nThe 31st Annual St. Louis Jewish Film Festival opens with a powerful meditation on dehumanization — and the urgent need to restore our shared humanity. When 250 cyclists embark on a profound journey\, retracing the liberation route of a Holocaust survivor from Auschwitz-Birkenau to Kraków\, Poland\, their ride becomes more than an act of remembrance. It becomes a living response to hatred\, one that transforms memory into empathy and action at a time of rising global antisemitism. For The Living is an epic and deeply moving true story that challenges us to ask: When will we stop building monuments only for the dead and begin rehumanizing the living? When will we finally say “Never Again” — and truly mean it? \nJoin us afterward for a Q and A discussion featuring For The Living film producer\, Lisa Effress\, and Co Director/Writer\, Tim Roper. Reception to follow. \nTrailer\n \nB&B Theatres Creve Coeur West Olive 10\nThis St. Louis Jewish Film Festival event is at B&B Theatres Creve Coeur West Olive 10\, a newly remodeled luxury entertainment center featuring 10 auditoriums with laser projection\, digital audio\, and heated electric reclining seats for an elevated viewing experience. SUMMARY:Nuremberg – A St. Louis Jewish Film Festival Event
DESCRIPTION:2025\, PG-13\nUSA\, English\nJames Vanderbilt\nFeature: 148 minutes \nPowerful\, gripping\, and intellectually provocative\, Nuremberg brings the world’s most infamous war crimes trial into sharp psychological focus. Starring Russell Crowe\, Rami Malek\, and Michael Shannon\, the film follows a U.S. Army psychiatrist tasked with evaluating Nazi leaders before they stand trial. As he becomes increasingly entangled with Hermann Göring\, the line between observer and participant begins to blur\, forcing him — and the audience — to confront unsettling questions about the nature of evil\, accountability\, and justice. Tense and morally complex\, Nuremberg asks whether true reckoning is possible when the perpetrators of history’s greatest crimes refuse to see themselves as monsters. \nTrailer\n \nB&B Theatres Creve Coeur West Olive 10\nThis St. Louis Jewish Film Festival event is at B&B Theatres Creve Coeur West Olive 10\, a newly remodeled luxury entertainment center featuring 10 auditoriums with laser projection\, digital audio\, and heated electric reclining seats for an elevated viewing experience. SUMMARY:Elie Wiesel: Soul On Fire – A St. Louis Jewish Film Festival Event
DESCRIPTION:2024\, NR\nUSA\, English\nOren Rudavsky\nDocumentary: 87 minutes \n“Sometimes I’m afraid the tale might be forgotten. Sometimes I’m afraid it is forgotten already.”— Elie Wiesel\, Nobel Prize winning author of Night Eighty years after his liberation from Buchenwald\, Elie Wiesel: Soul on Fire seeks to understand the man behind one of the most searing and widely read memoirs of the Holocaust. Told largely through Wiesel’s own words and unmistakable voice\, the film penetrates the heart of both the known and lesser-known Elie Wiesel (1928–2016) — his passions\, his doubts\, his moral conflicts\, and his lifelong insistence on bearing witness. Drawing on rare archival materials\, original interviews\, and striking hand-painted animation\, the film illuminates Wiesel’s journey as a survivor\, writer\, teacher\, and public conscience. More than a biography\, Elie Wiesel: Soul on Fire challenges each of us to consider what it truly means to bear witness — and whether we\, too\, would have the courage to endure\, to speak\, and to act in the face of injustice. \nTrailer\n \nJoin Us for a Special Q&A After the Show with Dr. Erin McGlothlin\, WashU Professor Holocaust Studies and German and Jewish Studies\nDr. Erin McGlothlin is the Gloria M. SUMMARY:Frontier – A St. Louis Jewish Film Festival Event
DESCRIPTION:2025\, MPA Rating: NR\nSpain\, Spanish with English subtitles\nJudith Colell\nFeature: 97 minutes \nSet in 1943\, Frontier tells the true story of a Spanish customs officer who quietly helps Jewish refugees escape Nazi-occupied France — one life at a time. As his solitary acts of defiance grow into an underground rescue effort\, he and his wife are forced to confront the lingering trauma of the Spanish Civil War and the very real danger posed by Nazi patrols along the border. Every choice carries risk\, and silence itself becomes a moral decision. Tense\, humane\, and deeply moving\, Frontier honors the courage of ordinary people who\, in a moment of history’s greatest darkness\, chose to act — knowing the cost\, and acting anyway. \nTrailer\n \nB&B Theatres Creve Coeur West Olive 10\nThis St. Louis Jewish Film Festival event is at B&B Theatres Creve Coeur West Olive 10\, a newly remodeled luxury entertainment center featuring 10 auditoriums with laser projection\, digital audio\, and heated electric reclining seats for an elevated viewing experience. SUMMARY:Vindicta @ Alamo Drafthouse City Foundry – A St. Louis Jewish Film Festival Event
DESCRIPTION:2025\, MPA Rating: NR\nUSA\, English\nDominik Sedlar\nFeature: 120 minutes \nBrutal\, intimate\, and unflinching\, Vindicta plunges audiences into the raw aftermath of unimaginable loss. After witnessing the murder of her parents\, a young Jewish woman is forced into hiding — and into a life defined by rage. What begins as survival hardens into a relentless pursuit of vengeance\, as she uses intimacy and deception to hunt those responsible for the destruction of her family. Each encounter blurs the line between power and peril\, justice and obsession. Inspired by true accounts of women who resisted the Nazi regime\, Vindicta is a tense and morally unsettling portrait of trauma\, desire\, and fury — asking whether revenge can ever heal what hatred has already destroyed. \nTrailer\n \nThe Alamo Draft House City Foundry\nThis showing of Vindicta (one of two) will take place at Alamo Drafthouse at City Foundry STL\, a vibrant Midtown destination known for its top-tier cinema experience. SUMMARY:The Tasters – A St. Louis Jewish Film Festival Event
DESCRIPTION:2025\, MPA Rating: NR\nItaly\, German with English subtitles\nSilvio Soldini\nFeature: 118 minutes \nInspired by a shocking true story\, The Tasters is a chilling portrait of survival inside Hitler’s inner circle. In the autumn of 1943\, Rosa\, a young woman fleeing bombed Berlin\, is forced into a terrifying role: along with other women from a remote village near the Wolf’s Lair\, she must taste the Führer’s meals each day — never knowing if the food is poisoned. Caught between starvation and the constant threat of death\, the women form fragile bonds marked by fear\, rivalry\, and desperate loyalty. Claustrophobic and quietly devastating\, The Tasters exposes the psychological toll of living under absolute terror\, where survival demands silence\, complicity\, and unbearable choices — and where even the most private emotions become acts of risk. \nTrailer\n \nB&B Theatres Creve Coeur West Olive 10\nThis St. Louis Jewish Film Festival event is at B&B Theatres Creve Coeur West Olive 10\, a newly remodeled luxury entertainment center featuring 10 auditoriums with laser projection\, digital audio\, and heated electric reclining seats for an elevated viewing experience. SUMMARY:Vindicta – A St.
\nTrailer\n \nB&B Theatres Creve Coeur West Olive 10\nThis St. Louis Jewish Film Festival event is at B&B Theatres Creve Coeur West Olive 10\, a newly remodeled luxury entertainment center featuring 10 auditoriums with laser projection\, digital audio\, and heated electric reclining seats for an elevated viewing experience. SUMMARY:The Pianist's Choice – A St. Louis Jewish Film Festival Event
DESCRIPTION:2025\, MPA Rating: NR\nFrance\, French/German with English subtitles\nJacques Otmezguine\nFeature: 102 minutes \n“During the war\, music becomes the last hope.” Set in occupied France\, The Pianist’s Choice is a haunting wartime romance where art becomes both refuge and reckoning. François Touraine is a gifted young pianist whose life is forever changed by his relationship with Rachel\, his older Jewish piano teacher. When the Nazis take control of Paris\, love and music collide with terror\, forcing François into an impossible moral dilemma: whether to use his talent to perform for the occupiers in a desperate attempt to save the woman he loves. Tender\, tragic\, and deeply resonant\, The Pianist’s Choice explores the cost of survival when art is entangled with power — and asks what remains of music\, love\, and conscience after the war has passed. \nTrailer\n \nB&B Theatres Creve Coeur West Olive 10\nThis St. Louis Jewish Film Festival event is at B&B Theatres Creve Coeur West Olive 10\, a newly remodeled luxury entertainment center featuring 10 auditoriums with laser projection\, digital audio\, and heated electric reclining seats for an elevated viewing experience. SUMMARY:The Ring – A St. Louis Jewish Film Festival Event
DESCRIPTION:2024\, MPA Rating: NR\nIsrael\, Hebrew with English subtitles\nAdir Miller\, Doron Paz\, Yoav Paz\nFeature: 117 minutes \nWhat begins as a simple\, almost casual discovery quickly becomes something far more profound. In this acclaimed Israeli drama (with humor!)\, a single object—a ring—unlocks a buried family story\, forcing its present-day owner to confront questions of memory\, inheritance\, and moral responsibility. Starring beloved Israeli actor Adir Miller\, The Ring moves fluidly between past and present\, exploring how the legacy of the Holocaust continues to shape lives generations later. As long-held truths surface\, the film asks what we owe to the past—and to each other—when history suddenly becomes personal. By turns poignant\, surprising\, and deeply human\, The Ring is a powerful reminder that history is never truly behind us. It lives in the objects we keep\, the stories we tell\, and the choices we make when we finally dare to look back. \nTrailer\n \nB&B Theatres Creve Coeur West Olive 10\nThis St. Louis Jewish Film Festival event is at B&B Theatres Creve Coeur West Olive 10\, a newly remodeled luxury entertainment center featuring 10 auditoriums with laser projection\, digital audio\, and heated electric reclining seats for an elevated viewing experience. DESCRIPTION:2025\, MPA Rating: NR\nIsrael\, Hebrew with English subtitles\nAmichai Greenberg\nFeature: 90 minutes \nWhen Reuben\, an 80-year-old actuary who believes life can be neatly measured and managed\, suddenly loses both his wife and her insurance money at the local swimming pool\, his carefully ordered world is thrown into chaos. What begins as a comic whodunit slowly becomes something deeper\, as suspicion gives way to connection and shared grief opens the door to an unexpected bond. SUMMARY:Eleanor The Great – A St. Louis Jewish Film Festival Event
DESCRIPTION:2025\, MPA Rating: PG-13\nUSA\, English\nScarlett Johansson\nFeature: 98 minutes \nThe perfect festival farewell\, Eleanor the Great marks Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut and showcases a magnificent performance by June Squibb as a woman discovering that it’s never too late to begin again. After a devastating loss\, Eleanor Morgenstein\, 94\, leaves Florida for New York City\, where a chance friendship with a young student pulls her back into the world — and into a story she tells that begins to take on a life of its own. As humor and grief intertwine\, Eleanor is forced to confront memory\, truth\, and the complicated ways we carry the past. Wry\, tender\, and laugh-out-loud funny\, Eleanor the Great is a deeply human film about friendship\, aging\, and survival — one that leaves you smiling\, misty-eyed\, and wonderfully unsure whether your tears come from laughter or recognition. \nTrailer\n \nB&B Theatres Creve Coeur West Olive 10\nThis St. Louis Jewish Film Festival event is at B&B Theatres Creve Coeur West Olive 10\, a newly remodeled luxury entertainment center featuring 10 auditoriums with laser projection\, digital audio\, and heated electric reclining seats for an elevated viewing experience.
