Probably Someday Cancer: Genetic Risk and Preventative Mastectomy
Kim Horner discovers she has inherited a BRCA gene mutation that puts her at high risk of developing certain cancers but struggles with the decision to have a surgery to reduce her risk for a disease she doesn’t have and may never get. In Probably Someday Cancer, Kim’s weaves her personal experience with extensive research and interviews to help anyone confronted with difficult medical decisions face their risk, take control of their healthcare and make informed decisions. By sharing her story, Kim hopes to end the devastation that hereditary cancer has caused for generations in so many families.
In partnership with Sharsheret Supports and FORCE (Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered).
Following her presentation, Kim will moderate a discussion with leaders from our medical community. The panel will include:
- Heidi A. Beaver, MPH, CGC, Certified Genetic Counselor, Missouri Baptist Medical Center
- Abigail Hoffman, MD, Breast Surgeon, Mercy
- Lynne Kipnis PhD, Clinical Psychologist
This is a free event, but an RSVP is requested by September 30.
