Caring for Ourselves and the Community

Join Taharath Israel & Sharsheret Supports as we celebrate and empower the women of our community!

A look at Jewish values and the implications for women’s health and wellness. Discussions will include:

  • The Mikvah’s Role in a Spiritual and Physical Balance
    • The spiritual component combined with focusing on your body in preparation
      Led by Rebbitzen Chani Smason
  • How to Care for a Family Member/Friend in Need
    • Including support programs from Sharsheret
      Led by Debbi Braunstein, Sharsheret Supports Coordinator, and Michelle Mufson, Sharsheret Advisory Committee Member
  • How to Be Your Healthiest Healthy; Gatekeeper of Your Personal Health
    • Finding time to take care of yourself and the importance of doing so
      Myths that cause confusion or unnecessary uncertainty
      Led by Cyndee Levy, R.N., Sharsheret Advisory Committee Member and Abigail Hoffman, M.D., Breast Surgeon
  • KNOW the Facts, LEARN the Risks, TAKE Action
    • Importance of knowing your family history and increased cancer genetic risk factors
      How to gather your family history and why having it is important to you and your family
      Led by Clinical Psychologist, Lynne Kipnis, Ph.D. and Certified Genetics Counselor, Suzanne Mahon, Ph.D.

Sharsheret Supports is a collaborative program of The J and the national Sharsheret organization, improves the lives of Jewish women and families living with breast or ovarian cancer through personalized support and educates the Jewish community regarding increased hereditary cancer risks.

Taharath Israel of St. Louis is an affiliate of the Vaad Hoeir, the United Orthodox Jewish Community of St. Louis. The association maintains two mikvahs for ritual immersion. They are the Sylvia Green Memorial Mikvah located on the Jewish Community Campus at 4 Millstone Campus Drive in Creve Coeur, and the Rebbetzin Nacha Rivkin and Rebbetzin Hinde Zuckerman Memorial Shabbat Mikvah located at Young Israel of St. Louis, 8101 Delmar Blvd. in University City.
