Marty Maier is in his 39th season in professional baseball, currently working for the Cincinnati Reds as a special assistant to the General Manager. Prior to joining the Reds, Maier spent 24 years with the St. Louis Cardinals where he worked as an area scout, Latin American Coordinator, Assistant Director of Scouting, Scouting Director and Special Assistant to the G.M.
As an area scout he signed several major league players including Vince Coleman, Lance Johnson, Danny Cox and Luis Alicea. As Director of Scouting Maier was responsible for drafting and signing Rick Ankiel, Dan Haren, Matt Morris, Placido Polanco and Jason Motte.
Maier was signed by the Kansas City Royals in 1974 after playing college baseball at Florida State University, where he graduated with a B.S. degree in Education. He played infield in both the Royals and the New York Yankees minor league systems. Maier was later inducted into the St. Louis Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.
A native of Hollywood, Florida, Maier and his wife, Diane, currently live in Chesterfield. They have three sons, Zackary, Jacob and Max, which he considers his greatest accomplishment and his greatest joy.
