Swim Program

Our aquatics mission is that each camper has a safe and enjoyable experience while developing skills they can use for a lifetime. Each camper will be assessed on their first day of camp and placed into a corresponding swim class. All campers, except all camps during Blast Off and Last Blast weeks, are required to participate unless they bring a note from their parent stating the reason to excuse them from swimming for that day. During Instructional Swim, campers will work with our certified instructors to improve their comfort and skills in the water. During Free Swim (Travel Camp only offers free swim), campers have the chance to use their new skills in the pool appropriate for their abilities and on our water play equipment. All swimming activities are supervised by certified swim instructors and the watchful eyes of our summer camp counselors.

Lunch and Snacks

  1. What should I pack my camper for lunch?
Campers are to bring lunch in a reusable soft lunch sack (or a brown paper bag) Monday through Friday. Out of concern for the health of our campers, please refrain from bringing items containing nuts. Due to the different food needs of all our campers and staff, individual lunches may not be shared. Since all lunches are refrigerated, your choice of items to send is vast; the most important elements are nutrition, variety and hydration.
  2. Are there any other lunch options besides the sack lunch?
If you choose to use our Plus Lunch program, we will provide your camper with a Kosher, nut-free lunch each day. This will include a vegetable/fruit, drink, dessert and main entree each day for only $30 per week. The Plus Lunch program can be added any time up until one week in advance. To add Plus Lunch, please contact the Day Camp Operations Coordinator, 314-442-3432.
  3. Can I send my camper with snacks?
We provide campers with a Kosher, nut-free snack daily. If your camper has dietary restrictions, please speak with the Camp Director, Brad Chotiner, 314.442.3423, before sending a snack from home.

Packing

  1. What should my camper bring to camp?
Each day, campers should bring a lunch in a reusable soft lunch sack (unless registered for Plus Lunch), a swimsuit and towel, sunscreen to reapply during the day, a water bottle, closed-toe shoes, socks, a backpack and a smile.
  2. What should be left at home?
Please leave the following at home: toys and stuffed animals, cellphones and other electronics, swimsuits with metal rivets or accessories as these cause damage to our slides and play equipment, tote bags or backpacks with wheels, and opened-toe shoes such as flip flops and sandals.
  3. What should my camper wear to camp each day?
Please send your camper in closed-toe shoes with socks each day. They should wear something comfortable and suited for the activities of their camp program. Please apply sunscreen to your camper each day before leaving home. We regularly remind campers to reapply their sunscreen. Don’t worry we can help your little camper reapply throughout the day as well.

Parent Handbook

2020 Parent Manual coming in spring 2020.

1:1 Inclusion Support

Many campers benefit from additional staff support, but we do not assume that all children with disabilities will require 1:1 support. Our Inclusion Supervisor will work with you to determine if 1:1 support will be beneficial and available for your child. If it is determined that your child will benefit from additional staff support, the level of support will be based on the specific needs of your child. Our goal is to fully integrate your child into the camp program. We observe each child in the Inclusion program throughout the summer and communicate with counselors and parents to help ensure success and make modifications when needed.

Inclusion support for qualified campers is dependent on availability of staff, and space is limited. We strongly recommend that you submit both your camp registration and inclusion intake forms as early as possible. Preference will be given to those families who register before March 5 for the entire summer. Next preference will be given to families who register before March 5 for the greatest number of weeks. In addition, all J day camp registration forms and inclusion intake forms must be completed and submitted no later than May 1 to be considered.

  • Inclusion support is dependent on the availability of staff and the recommendation of our Inclusion Supervisor
  • Preference will be given to families who register before March 5 for the greatest number of weeks
