Volunteer at the J

Helping Hands Are Always Welcome!

With hundreds of programs each year, the J is always looking for volunteers to help fulfill our mission in serving the community. Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of activities, including but not limited to:

  • Help us prepare and run a specific event
  • Help in an Early Childhood classroom
  • Coach a youth sports team (baseball, basketball, soccer, etc.)
  • Assist with interest groups in the Adult Day Center
  • The possibilities go on!

Jewish Book Festival
September. Help make the JBF even more successful by being on a volunteer committee. The committees are looking for all sorts of wonderful people with many different wonderful skills.

Preschool Cleanup
The Chesterfield ECC needs help cleaning leaves and brush from their outdoor play areas. Time can be determined according to volunteer schedules.

Yom HaAtsmaut – Israeli Independence Day
May 14. Volunteers will help with different carnival booths like inflatable slides, cotton candy making, or helping in the petting zoo.  After you have filled out the volunteer form, you can sign up for a time slot here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0845ADAF2DA6F94-48497679-israel#/

ShavuART
June 6 from 6-8pm. 10-15 volunteers are wanted to help in the J’s Makerspace with this fun family event.

Pride Shabbat
June 14 in the evening. 10-15 volunteers are wanted to help with tie-dying and other fun activities in the outside pavilion at the Staenberg Family Complex.

Kids’ Fun Day
Sunday, June 30.  Help run fun outdoor games for families with young children from 2:30-6pm.

Adult Day Center

Adults 18+ are wanted to volunteer with both programs in the ADC.  Responsibilities could include helping with sports and fitness, leading an art or music (for example) group, or modeling exercises and movement.

Swimming: Monday and Tuesday 1-2:30pm
Exercise: M-F 10-11am (can do one or many days per week)
Arts and Crafts: M-F 11am-12pm (can do one or many days per week)
CRL: Every other Monday April through Mid-October
Tai Chi: Thursdays 12:45-2pm
Gardening: varies M-F between 1-3pm
Tower Gardens: 2-3x per week with a flexible schedule
Meal Service: M-F 12-1pm  (can do one or many days per week) (must have Hep A vaccination)
Special Events/Outings:  varies

Early Childhood Center

Adults 18+ are wanted to volunteer in both the Chesterfield and Creve Coeur Early Childhood Centers. Volunteers can help with holding babies, reading to classes, or sharing a passion with a class.

Kitchen J

A volunteer with great phone skills and a positive disposition is wanted to help make monthly check-ins to our client’s in out home delivery meal service.  The time and hours can be discussed and personalized.  Volunteers will make phone calls to clients, asking specific questions and lending an ear to listen. New Jewish Theatre Ushers

Love theatre?  This is a chance to see live plays for FREE while volunteering to usher the play.

St. Louis Senior Olympics

Shabbat Dinner

First Friday of each month. 5-8pm.  Help set up and serve dinner for a Shabbat program for young families at the Creve Coeur J.

Song Leader Boot Camp

14+ February 18-20. Volunteers are wanted to help serve meals to 200 participants.  Please contact Stephanie for specific times and availability.

Sunday Friendship Group

Adults with special needs get together every other Sunday 11-3pm (ish) for social gatherings on and off campus including trips to the zoo, cooking classes, etc. August through May.

Theatre Unlimited

Adults with special needs get together on Wednesday evenings (6-8pm) and Sundays (4-6pm)  to audition, rehearse, and perform musicals. Volunteers are needed to help model choreography, assist with behavioral skills, and help with tech.

Volunteer Opportunities – Spring/Summer Only

J Day Camp Counselor in Training (CIT)

We will be taking applications in Spring 2024 for next summer! For people entering their 10th grade year in the Fall of 2024, the J has a volunteer CIT program that teaches leadership skills and how to work with children while having fun swimming, playing sports, and doing arts and crafts (and much more).  The day camps run from May 28 – August 16, and we do request that CITs spend most of the summer with us (for continuity for the campers).

Garden of Eden

Staenberg Family Complex/Creve Coeur
Sundays, Mondays & Thursdays, 8-11am

Volunteer tasks include planting, weeding, stirring the compost, harvesting, and preparing the produce for transport to the pantry.  The garden is open March-November.

Volunteers are needed for one-time events and administrative help (like mailings). Ask to be put on the volunteer email list so you can find out what they are. You are not obligated to any minimum number of hours or events.
